Juan Ruiz Alzola gained a doctorate in telecommunications engineering from the Universidad Politécnica in Madrid. He has been a tenured professor at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the area of knowledge of Signals and Communications Theory since 1992.
In 1999, he took advantage of a year’s research at Harvard University, where he remained a visiting professor until 2004. In April 2004, he was appointed Head of Research and Technology at the Canary Islands Technological Institute and in July 2007, he was made Head of the Canary Islands Agency for Research, Innovation and the Information Society attached to the Canary Islands Government and until 2011 Managing Director of the Canary Islands Technological Institute.
He is the author or co-author of over one hundred mainly international scientific publications and has directed numerous R + D projects as well as five doctoral theses.
